Another drawing from the British museum trip. In the Africa gallery there’s a beautiful display of knives, at the bottom of which are these sculpted calligraphic figures of black painted steel. I don’t have the note to hand which tells me the sculptor’s name, I just remember that they were inspired by Rumi’s poetry. I must admit, I haven’t read any Rumi, but I loved the figures because they did look as though someone had waved a brush in the air, loaded with black ink, and the swishes had materialised.
