We went to the photographers gallery today and I saw a wonderful photo by Tom Wood called Three Wise Women. I have to admit there’s something about pairing imagery – of three old ladies in this case – with biblical narratives. I find it very evocative; it gives depth to the images, putting on it (under it? through it?) a narrative layer that gives more meaning to the work. I think of George Shaw’s paintings too in this regard. Well, the drawing is nothing quite so meaningful or multi-layered, but rather a quick sketch of the aforementioned photo!
