I was given a lovely set of Conte charcoal pencils today by some lovely people from church who were having a clear out, found the pencils and thought of me. And they’re really nice pencils so I thought I would try them out this afternoon and I did a few sketches, most of which were not very good. The one below is the one I liked the most and because it seemed to be going well I decided not to ruin it by trying to draw a face – for some reason I can’t draw faces with charcoal yet. Perhaps because I’m thinking like a pencil when I use it and I need to learn to think like charcoal – if that makes any sense.

  1. Lovely drawing. the facelessness and the fact its floating in space gives it quite a surreal aura.
