Sixteen

On one visit to my in-laws’ house, I was shown one of my husband’s childhood books – and I fell in love with it. It’s Animal Fair by Alice and Martin Provensen. They did a number of beautiful books which they wrote and illustrated together and if you google their surname you’ll see a number of images, but best of all is getting hold of one and reading the funny stories and poems while looking at the lovely, evocative images. So naturally, I tried to do some copying.

I didn’t scan our copy – the binding is falling apart and I didn’t want to stress it out even more – but I found an image online so you can compare. The colours don’t show very well in the image of their work but enough so that you can see that I didn’t do very well there at all. For the last few days I’ve been thinking that I really do need to do some work on my colour mixing – rather than the hit and mix tactics I currently employ. Ah, well, back to the …
